Abstract
This article presents a theoretical proposal for the symbolic measurement of subjective time, centered on the concepts of Chronons, Hectachronos, and Hexachronons, developed within the context of the XChronos project.
A Chronon is understood as the smallest experiential unit of lived symbolic time; a Hectachronos represents an expanded unit composed of one hundred dense Chronons; and a Hexachronon is the synchronistic resonance between Chronons lived at different times but symbolically connected.
The proposed measurement is qualitative and based on factors such as conscious presence, semantic complexity, emotional intensity, perceived synchronicity, and psychic resistance.
The article also proposes a conceptual instrument called the Chronon Meter, which enables symbolic estimations based on lived experience.
1. What Is a Chronon?
A Chronon, within the symbolic system of XChronos, is the minimal experiential unit of lived symbolic time.
It is not time that passes.
It is time that happens in you.
A Chronon is:
- Subjective
- Variable
- Dependent on levels of attention, meaning, and presence
- Linked to semantic density and the archetypal charge of the experience
2. How to Measure Chronons?
Chronons are not measured by stopwatch, but can be symbolically quantified through phenomenological indexes.
This measurement requires the creation of an internal symbolic logic within the XChronos system.

3. Symbolic Chronon Formula
C = (A × S × E × I) / R
Where:
- C = Quantity of Chronons generated
- A = Degree of full attention (0 to 1)
- S = Number of activated signifiers
- E = Emotional intensity (0 to 10)
- I = Perceived symbolic impact (0 to 10)
- R = Psychic resistance to the experience (0 to 10)
The lower the resistance, the greater the flow.
The higher the symbolic impact, the denser the Chronon.
4. Hectachronos as an Expanded Unit
A Hectachronos corresponds to 100 dense Chronons accumulated in a single event or interval.
It may manifest in:
- Ecstatic moments
- Spiritual epiphanies
- Archetypal memories sweeping through the present
- Meditative experiences of high density
Hectachronos is dense time,
the moment that reverberates as a living symbol.
5. Hexachronons: Multilayered Accumulations of Synchronistic Chronons
A Hexachronon points to another dimension: the superposition of multiple Chronons interconnected through synchronicity or symbolic recurrence, going beyond simple linear accumulation.
5.1 Characteristics
- Non-linearity: events may occur far apart in chronological time
- Symbolic repetition: recurring symbols, sensations, or patterns
- Synchronicity across times: perception of shared meaning between separate events
- Existential echo: a reverberation that reacts and reactivates itself, as if time were responding to itself
5.2 Examples
- Words or images appearing repeatedly in states of heightened awareness
- Past experiences that become newly meaningful in the present
- Symbols (like a rainbow in the west) recurring during contemplative states
5.3 Distinction Between Hectachronos and Hexachronons
- Hectachronos is the intensive accumulation of Chronons in a single interval
- Hexachronon is the symbolic linkage of Chronons separated in time but united in meaning
Symbolic Formula
Hₓ = ∑ Cᵢ ∈ S, where S = set of Chronons sharing a symbolic pattern.
6. Conceptual Instrument: The Chronon Meter
A proposed artistic-philosophical application that collects:
- Keywords
- Emotions
- Symbolic elements
- Approximate chronological duration
And provides a symbolic estimate:
“You lived 7.2 Chronons in that moment.”
“There was an explosion of 2 Hectachronos during that meditation.”
Conclusion
Chronons are not measured in absolute numbers.
They are read through the symbolic intensity of experience.
Like art, they are measured with wonder, presence, and meaning.
The proposal of Chronons, Hectachronos, and Hexachronons offers an alternative to physical chronology.
It invites the construction of a new kind of time:
a time that reveals itself as it is felt.
